July 4th - No celebrations here
Today the weather turned cloudy with chances of rain, so we decided to go north with the jeep and see some of that area. There was a "Lobster Festival" in the small town of Cow Head. There wasn't much there. On the drive up, we stopped at the remains of S.S. Ethie.
We then went up the road and had a lesson in how to catch lobster, cod and salmon and how the fishermen then harvested, stored and sold this. It was very interesting due to the fact that the park ranger had once been the first women fisherman in the union here in this area. Well, not exactly in the union since they didn't allow her in, but she was one of the first women to actually fish comercially. Her stories were hilarious and her accent was unbelievable except in the movies.
