Ending the Summer

It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog, hope I can remember what we did.  I left you sitting in the Library at Jackson.  On Sunday, Dom and Sue, neighbors in Happy Trails, drove down to our site in Colter Bay from Yellowstone.  We were going to miss them by one day and we wanted to visit.  On Monday, Aug. 19th, we took our last hike in the Tetons.  Lake Taggert and Bradley.         On Wednesday, Aug the 20th, we took the long drive back to Star Valley.  (around 70 miles)  We had rented a lot from an individual for 1 week and were going to head out to St. George by way of Dinosaur Monument and maybe Flaming Gorge.  Well, as most of you know, we decided to buy a lot in Star Valley for our future summer home.  We have lots to do their hiking, pickleball, and kayaking.  So we ended up staying 3 weeks. Hike to Strawberry Creek. 3.5 miles out and an altitude gain of 1500 ft. We had yet to see any animals except for a coyote. Then within the last 100 yds from the end (or begin

After leaving Star Valley and our last day of Pickleball for a while, we headed to Granite Falls.  A ten mile gravel road put us in the NFS campground in which we were the largest rig and one of 2 motorhomes.  But, it was worth it.  After arrival we decided to just explore.  Less than a mile later, we emerged upon this. Granite Falls.  It was gorgeous.  We figured this must be a great place.  Our campsite was facing a stream and we were sure there would be critters there.  Sure enough on the 2nd morning there, This is what we saw.   A cow moose and her calf.  Everyone                                                     had told us that the Bull Moose had been with them a couple of mornings before, but we didn’t get to see him. Later that day, we hiked back to the falls and walked thru the cold, cold water to a naturals hot springs.  Set in the springs with a glass of wine and enjoyed the time, but a troop of boy scouts (14 to 16 yrs) joined us.  8 or 9 big boys from the Boy Scou

Bryce Canyon and thereafter

It’s been awhile, and I’m hoping to catch up on our travels.  We were in the Bryce Canyon 4th of July Parade. We even decorated the tank.  It was small, but a lot of fun.  The Hosts from Sunset Campground, Keith and Charlotte  were also in the parade.     Bob rode in the Fire Engine and got to blow the horn.  On the 6th, since we were off, we finished our under the rim trail and therefore completed the final trail in Bryce Canyon. Here’s the last  pictures of Bryce.         So, next we went to Ogden, UT for the Dennis Forbes Memorial Tournament. We saw many of our friend from Happy Trails here.  I didn’t play really well, but since I hadn’t played but 4 times since my surgery last December, I guess I did ok. Here’s the group of Happy Trails people After Ogden, we left the rig at a RV park in Ogden and flew to visit Bob’s Mom in Seattle.  She is doing great at 95.  Not always aware who we are, but seems really content. Quick 3 days and back on the road.  We had no rea

On June 9 & 10, Bob and I went to St. George and stayed with Ginger and Art Miller. It was very nice of them to let us stay in their casita.  Art fixed hot dogs on the grill for us on Sunday evening after we arrived.  On Monday, we headed to Little Valley Courts to play pickleball.  Met Mary Lynn Larson there and had some great games. (It was just good to be on the court) Had planned a massage for both of us, but the masseuse had jury duty, so I went to the Pickleball Ladies Lunch that the ladies in St. George have once a month.  Got to meet new ladies and have time with the ones I already knew.  We then met Ginger and Art for dinner at Chili’s.  Later that evening, we realized that Pete and Toni Boehme were still in Sun River.  Spent about an hour visiting them and remembering all the good times on the road.  Stopped off Tuesday morning to play with Elizabeth and Higgie Higginbottom.  Had a good group there.  Then shopping and back to the park. Worked for 3 days, then hiking
