Ending the Summer
It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog, hope I can remember what we did. I left you sitting in the Library at Jackson. On Sunday, Dom and Sue, neighbors in Happy Trails, drove down to our site in Colter Bay from Yellowstone. We were going to miss them by one day and we wanted to visit. On Monday, Aug. 19th, we took our last hike in the Tetons. Lake Taggert and Bradley.
On Wednesday, Aug the 20th, we took the long drive back to Star Valley. (around 70 miles) We had rented a lot from an individual for 1 week and were going to head out to St. George by way of Dinosaur Monument and maybe Flaming Gorge. Well, as most of you know, we decided to buy a lot in Star Valley for our future summer home. We have lots to do their hiking, pickleball, and kayaking. So we ended up staying 3 weeks.
Hike to Strawberry Creek. 3.5 miles out and an altitude gain of 1500 ft. We had yet to see any animals except for a coyote. Then within the last 100 yds from the end (or beginning) Guess What! Moose
This is a beautiful area and we still have lots to discover. Besides the hiking, we went kayaking on the 5th of Sept. with friends on the Salt River.
I did take a spill, but so did one other person. The water was low and we had to maneuver over the rocks and under trees. I got my paddle stuck in a tree and ended upside down. The water was cold, but a warm day made it feel good.
A couple of days later, took another hike on the Cedar Springs Trail. This was only a 2 mile drive to the trail head. Beautiful hike of only about 7 miles out and back. Gain in elevation of course, but only around 1,000 ft.
Our last hike there was the Lost Creek Trail. Still only 6 or 7 miles, and an elevation gain of 1000 ft., but one of the best, except for the last 600 yds in the rain.
The leafs were starting to turn already. Here’s a burning bush.
Next year when we go back, we’ll be putting in a patio and a shed.
Pickleball courts.
This is Don Odle’s lot and the general layout of what ours will be.
Well, we’re in St. George and will be here until after Huntsmen Games except for a quick trip to Vegas for the Nevada Senior Games on Oct. 7-9th. We’re helping them run the tournament so are going on the 5th. Since we’ve been to St. George so many times, we’re not only playing pickleball, but checking out some of the area and of course the hiking. Get back to you after we get to Happy Trails for the winter. It was another great summer.
