Washington DC

Image
From Hersey, PA we traveled to Washington, DC. I had never been there, so it was a must on my bucket list. Bob was here some 40 years ago and wanted to revisit some of the items. We got into Cherry Hill RV Park just after noon, so we went ahead and drove over to the New National Air and Space Museum out near Dulles Airport. It was great with lots of large airplanes tracing the first planes to current. On Tuesday, we went to DC from Cherry Hill by bus to the College Park Metro Station. The trains are the way to go visit DC. We spent the entire day just doing the Monuments and Arlington Cemetary. Above is the Washington Monument. This picture is taken from the FDR memorial. This was was an interesting trip into our history. The sculptures were fantastic. The next day, we did the Smithsonians, at least a few of them anyway. We decided that there was no way to see all of them so we spent 4 hours in the Museum of Natural History, then on to the Museum of American History. Didn't spent

New Friends and Old

Image
Well, we're back into the TTN system in Hershy, PA. Had plenty of new friends and some old. Pat and John Irwin were there, along with Bert and Mary Ann Linquist from Happy Trails. We met lots of new friends and played lots of pickleball. It was fun after two months without picking up a paddle. Dave & Carole George is below. To the Right is Jim and Marlene Smith Marie and Keith Richards to the left. And Harry and Karen Shaak. (below) We also met Bob and Deb Boyer (Left) And Diane and Jack Koons (Below) Wayne and Nancy may reconize some faces and I know that Ken and Faye do. We had a Pickleball Pot Luck on Saturday night. (19 people there) A Great time with great food. It's so nice to see the friendships that we make in Pickleball just continue to grow. Hated leaving, but now to Washington, DC

Bar Harbor, the second time around

Image
Well, now that we're back in the states, we headed to Bar Harbor, hopefully with enough pretty weather to hike and get out in. It was still overcast some, but no rain and good hiking weather. We got there on Tuesday, early afternoon and since it was sunny decided to drive up to Cadillac Mtn. Then since we hadn't planned on hiking, Bob decided we needed a little walk for exercise. Cadillac Mtn. is the highest mountain in Acadia Ntl. Park. We headed out with no water, tennis shoes instead of boots. I did have a hat in the car. It turned out to be a 4 mile walk that you had to find handholds and foot holds on the rock faces to climb up and down. This short walk took 4.5 hours. But as you can see, the view as worth it. Above is a boat we had seen in Cape Breton. It was docked in Bar Harbor. At the side is part of the trail we were on. Be sure and double click on the panaramic view. The next day, we took what they call a moderate trail. We started just above the beach

Nova Scotia and on to New Brunswick

From North Sydney, we traveled to Halifax. Now that's a big city. We toured Peggy's Cove. Above is a Monument to the fisherman of that area. Peggy's Cove is named due to a women being washed up from a wreck in the cove and everyone going to see her referred to her as Peggy of the Cove. Another Lighthouse. Peggy's Cove was really pretty, but run over with tourist. Four or five Tour Buses came in while we were there. We don't care for crowds, and it ruins the beauty of the place, too much noise to enjoy. The next day we visited the Bay of Fundy from the Nova Scotia side. Of course there was fog so the pictures look a little blurred. Below is a dock that we passed on the way to hike and these boats were just tied to the wharf. Nothing unusual . Right, on the way back, the tide had gone out and as you see, the boats are on bottom. The water was way out, and couldn't even be seen. Below is a picture of the Bay from the end of our hike. If you look ca

Well, we left St. John's, NL and traveled 12 hours across the island to get to Port Aux Basques, got there around 8:30 pm on July 30th. Then we waited in line to exchange our tickets (we received a refund for the cancelled ferry ride from Argentia and didn't have to pay for this ferry crossing at all). Around 11:30 pm, we got back to our rig and left at 3:00 am. Arriving in North Sydney at 10:00 am, we headed to the KOA approximately 15 miles from the ferry. All we did after that was rest. It was the first day since Texas, that we have had to turn on the air conditioner. We finally have summer. It was beautiful on Friday, but too tired to enjoy it. Of course, during the night the rain came in and when we got up on Saturday, rain! But we wanted to see Louisbourg, so we headed out. This is a National Historic Site that reflects the history of the French and English fighting over this area for control of the fishing industry. The people dress in periodic and depict the life
