July Already—2 more weeks in Bryce

On June 9 & 10, Bob and I went to St. George and stayed with Ginger and Art Miller. It was very nice of them to let us stay in their casita.  Art fixed hot dogs on the grill for us on Sunday evening after we arrived.  On Monday, we headed to Little Valley Courts to play pickleball.  Met Mary Lynn Larson there and had some great games. (It was just good to be on the court) Had planned a massage for both of us, but the masseuse had jury duty, so I went to the Pickleball Ladies Lunch that the ladies in St. George have once a month.  Got to meet new ladies and have time with the ones I already knew.  We then met Ginger and Art for dinner at Chili’s.  Later that evening, we realized that Pete and Toni Boehme were still in Sun River.  Spent about an hour visiting them and remembering all the good times on the road.

Stopped off Tuesday morning to play with Elizabeth and Higgie Higginbottom.  Had a good group there.  Then shopping and back to the park.

Worked for 3 days, then hiking on the 16th.  We drove down to Rainbow point and did the Riggs Springs Trail (8.8 miles)

We were going to go back to Surprise onJune 20th for my last doctor’s appt.  We did not see the purpose of driving 426 miles for an xray and for him to tell me I could start doing more.  I’m not hurting, so there’s no reason to go. So we didn’t.

On our next days off, we realized that we were getting to the end of our stay and hadn’t seen some of the things we had wanted, so we took one day on the 21st and drove up though Panquitch to Panquitch Lake.

It’s really a big lake, just couldn’t get it all in the picture.  It’s famous for the rainbow trout you catch.  It was so windy, there were almost white caps.

From there we ventured up to Cedar Breaks and Brian Head.  And when I said up, it was up, To about 11,000 ft.

The ads indicated that you could ride the ski lift at Brian’s Head Ski area, but nothing was open.  We were really hungry by then so we headed to Parowan and to Parowan Gap.

Parowan is the oldest city in Southern UT. The Gap is famous for the Petroglyhs.

After a full day of driving, we took one day off and then on the 23rd we needed another hike.  We had planned on leaving the jeep at the Whiteman Bench trailhead and hiking to Bryce Point.  Would be about 11 miles and would complete our last section of the under the rim trail.  Couldn’t find someone to take us back up to pick up the jeep, so we just headed out on the Rim Trail to Bryce Point.  That’s only about 3 or 4 miles from our campsite, so when we got there, we decided to make it down to Hat Shop and back.  Another 4 miles round trip.20130623_104345

It was a great hike, but instead of taking the shuttle back from Bryce Point to Sunrise, we decided to hike down the Bryce Point Trail to connect to the Peek a Boo Trail and then up the Navajo to Sunset and Sunrise Point.  At Sunrise Point, we treated ourselves to an ice cream.  After a 13 mile hike I think we deserved it.

Luckily we had a 4th day off to rest up from that hike.  Of course, when we went back to work on the 25th, we had to work for 4 days.  So on Monday, July 1st, we made our last trip this summer to Cedar City to play pickleball.  Really appreciate the time and fun we’ve had playing with Elizabeth and Higgie this summer.

Now we’re back at work for these 3 days.  Of course, it’s the 2nd and we work through the 4th.  It’ll probably be hectic.  We have a parade on the 4th and we have to decorate our golf cart for it.  Should be fun.
