Prince Edward Island continued

Image
Garden at Anne of Green Gables Lupines that grow wild everywhere up here. Like I said previously, Prince Edward Island is beautiful. The pictures don't do it justice. We're staying in a Provincal Park on the NE side of the island tonight. And again, I'm looking at the water through my front window. It's really a gray and rainy day, but it's still beautiful, watching the fisherman and the ferry cross the water. Yesterday we visited the Anne of Green Gables House. Not that she was real, but the author was a native of the area and used real structures and places as guides for her stories. We also visited the beach at Prince Edward National Park. Next will be our ultimate goal, tomorrow we overnight in Nova Scotia for the ferry to Newfoundland. They say that I'll definately see my moose there.

Now in Prince Edward Island

Well, I've got some updating to do. I hope I cover it all since it's been so marvelous. After we left Bar Harbor, we headed for Eastport, ME. This was on the 22nd of June. There we stayed in Seaview RV Park. Right on the water, but I guess I have to get used to that. Eastport is the most eastern city of the continental USA. As with the majority of t his trip so far, most everything is closed in town since we are too early in the season. We did have a good day with only occasional rain. We also toured Lubec which is the eastern most town. There the Quoddy Lighthouse is the most famous lighthouse, being the eastern most lighthouse in the USA. The flowers and scenery is great. Also, the total atmosphere of the people. It's really friendly. Here's where I had the first lobster of the trip. This was great and I throught a really good deal at $17.95 us. On the 24th, we entered Canada. We had heard horror tales of getting past customs into Canada. It was a total sham. They di

Bar Harbor- Cloudy but Beautiful

Image
Well, this is supposed to be the best day this week. It's cloudy, but not dripping all the time. Yesterday after we got here, we drove into Bar Harbor and visited the shops and walked around in the rain to view an Art Show. The town is busseling even in the rain. Here's a picture of me with a whale on the dock of the whale watching place. In the rain, that's as far as we got. We'll do the whale watching in Newfoundland. As we walked around town in the rain, we viewed beautiful hanging baskets and the oceanside buildings. I will say that the countryside here is covered with flowers. Well, today was better and we drove the Park route in Acadia National Park. It was really beautiful and we'll have to come back when it's nicer to go hiking. Now we only walked to the different sites that we needed to get to easy.

...in Bar Harbor but no water in sight

After leaving Thursday, we made it to the Saratoga Springs Elks and all we can say is "Wow". It was very nice. On Friday we pushed on to Elks in Waterville Maine. In general the weather was rainy but not windy, so we pushed forward. The Elks in Waterville was also very nice. Today we arrived at Bar Harbor but it's DUCK SOUP. We should have a view of the water but with all the rain and drizzle nothing is visible beyond 100 feet. Tomorrow is supposed to be better. Stay tuned..

On the road again...

Image
We're on the road again heading toward our July 1st ferry departure for Newfyland. After an eleven day delay, things should be fixed for moving on. In total, we replaced our Converter, Rear Differential, Kitchen plumbing and seal to the grey water tank, reconnected the passenger A/C vent, and changed the oil and filter on the rig. They got us out late in the day, but we were tired of the location and ready to move east keeping our fingers crossed on the repairs. We're going at least a few hours and then move on tomorrow.

Break Down

Image
This will bring the travels up to date with a Bummer of a breakdown. After playing on Sunday morning with Tom and Becky and their son-in-law, we headed out. We were actually going to stay in a RV Park, the RPI on Wellsby Island in the middle of the St. Lawrence. Going through Fulton, we heard a crunch and a loud clanking. We pulled over and saw nothing, so headed out again. Too much noise, so decided not to chance it. Called CoachNet to arrange a tow. Spent one night in the Valero Gas Station parking lot. On Monday morning we were towed to Camping World in Syracuse, NY. One week later, we're still here, camping in their parking lot, waiting on a new rear-end. Luckily, there's water and a dump within hose length. Here's the problem child. A rear end problem.

Tom and Becky Wells

After playing on Saturday morning, we left for Rochester, New York for an overnight at the Elks. Luckily, Tom and Becky Wells had just arrived that day at their daughters in Honeoye Falls, NY. This is just down the street from the Elks. They invited us for breakfast and then we went to the new court in their area. It is at the Dyer Straights Driving Range. The owner plays in the Villages in Florida in the winter, so came back home and built two regulation pickleball courts. It's open to the public and they teach on Saturdays. If you're in the area, drop by.

Don and Harolyn's

Image
From Mammoth Caves, we tried to go to the Louisville Slugger, but you know how it goes when you get somewhere in your rig that you're not familiar with and there's no where to park, so we waved hi to the big bat and left. The next stop was Wooster, Ohio to visit Don and Harolyn Walker. They spend the summer at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. Lots of activity there while we were. We also played some pickleball. Don has arranged with the parks and rec dept for two tennis courts to be marked and reserved for pickleball 4 nights a week and Saturday morning. He thinks by next year that they will have the two tennis courts permanantly and remarked. He's got around 8 or 10 men that play regularly. They teach on Monday and Wednesday evening. If you're in the area, you need to visit them. They're always ready for a game. Here's some pictures of the Antique Tracker Auction that was going on while we were there and the regular morning exercise session of the trotters.

Mammoth Cave

Image
After Dee's, we headed up thru Memphis and Nashville to Park City, Kentucky. Hope of the Mammoth Cave National Park. This is the longest known cave in the world. We took the Grand Avenue Tour that was 4 miles long and considered steneous. You cross what they call the Grand Canyon, walk through narrow slits and climb Mt. McKinley. It was great exercise and a big cavern, but there were very few formations in comparison to Karchner Caverns. Enjoyed the tour and the people. Stayed at the RPI Park, Diamond Caverns RV Resort. Nice and convenient to the caves. Lots of things to do in this area. We took the jeep out and toured the National Park that Mammoth Caves is in. It's hugh and beautiful. One thing different is that there are several Ferry's that you have to cross when driving or hiking in the park.

End of May

We left Happy Trails on Wednesday, May 20th and drove three long days to Texahoma. Juanita and Carl are working in Texahoma for the summer. Since this was Memorial Day weekend, the park was packed. I’ve never seen so many kids. We went over to the pickleball courts that are on the pavilion. Two of them. Immediately started to teach the kids and families that wanted to play. Bob and Carl built two new net stands and we had s ome great games. Juanita’s sons and grandsons were there and they know how to play. Some of the young people were really fast learners and had played tennis and ping pong so they were really good also (of course it was a fast hard hitting game). We left Texahoma on Wednesday, May 27 and went to see Dee in Texarkana. We stayed at the Elks there, just 1 mile from Dee’s house. She had some electrical outlets that didn’t work so Bob determined what the problem was and fixed them. However; in the process, he discovered the problem was that the outer wall of the trailer w
