Rocky Mountain National Park
Campsites are not very level but big enough.
Our first day in Rocky Mountain National Park was cloudy with a little drizzle but beautiful. Bob and I are back in our elements now. No traffic, beautiful snow-capped mountains and lots of wild life. Just driving in, we saw Elk galore. No big racks, but the velvet racks are growing.
View from campsite. Elks at rest
Day 2, Friday, June 4, was beautiful. We took our first hike. About 6 miles of beauty with an elevation change of 540'. Not bad for the first day out.
Day 3, Saturday, June 5, 2010, another beautiful day. We went hiking again. This was a shorter hike, but more elevation gain. We figured about 2.5 miles out and 2 miles back with a total elevation gain of around 1,000 ft. Didn't see as many animals, but great views. These are pictures of us at Gem Lake.
Here is a view from the trail of Estes Park.
Day 4, Sunday, June 6. We took a day off from hiking and went down to Fort Collins Senior Center to play pickleball. Wow, other cities should take note of how to build Senior Centers. Full court gym, indoor pool, locker rooms, and all other types of amenities. These seniors have it made. Here are some pictures of the courts. Ran into Bob Carl from HT. Also, Grace was there. Really some great indoor play. Bob and I wanted to get a little practice indoor on wood floors before the Rocky National Senior Games on Friday. It's going to be interesting. They have 99 people signed up all in one day. Two venues . It was really great to meet Diane again. In 2004 or 2005, Diane and I was matched up at Huntsmen for Women's Doubles. She had never played outdoors and hadn't been playing regularly since she was still employed. Now, she's going to be a player to be reckoned with. She was playing great on Sunday.
Day 5, Monday, June 7. We took the Trail Ridge Road drive today. We had been to Rocky Mountain National Park in June, one week later, of 2002. I looked up our pictures and this will show you the difference in snow fall .
We didn't see any Big Horn Sheep, but did see a Moose with Antlers, (small, but they will grow.) The views from the Road were fantastic. We drove all the way to Grand Lake with a couple of short hikes. Below are some views.
