August in Star Valley

After the tournament, we took a couple of days to get back organized with no entertaining of guests and to go shopping in Idaho Falls.  It’s about 80 miles for a trip to get supplies for the month of August and hopefully the last trip before we leave here in the middle to end of Sept.  Then, we had to fly to St. Louis for a funeral. Bob’s aunt passed away. We were gone from Aug 6th – 8th.  Good trip, Bob saw cousins that he had not seen since he was around 11 years old.  I had never met most of these relatives.  Everyone appreciated that we had taken the time to go.
After we got back, we tried to start our hiking and kayaking again, so here is the latest.
Aug 10th, Swift Creek.  This was written up to be a hard hike, but really wasn’t as bad as we thought.  It was a beautiful hike as always, but not near as steep.

In my last blog, Nadine, Mike and us had gone to the Periodic Falls.  This is a picture of that from up above on the trail.  It was gorgeous.
We hiked along and above the creek that feeds this. The flowers of course were everywhere.

At about 5 miles out, we viewed the Cowboy Falls.  It wasn’t running as fast now, but I plan on doing this hike earlier next year to see this one.

This was just at a 10 mile hike and probably my limit. If it had been steeper, I wouldn’t have been able to walk the next day.

On Monday the 11th, a small group of us went kayaking on the Snake river.  It was really a short trip and wasn’t rough at all.  We put in down by Astoria Hot Springs (not public) and floated down to West Table.  West Table is where most of the raft trips put in so that they hit the bigger rapids.  I wouldn’t want to Kayak from there down.  There were only seven kayaks this day and was really fun. We have to really protect ourselves from the sun. Makes for a weird look.

Our companions on the river. All are also Pickleball players.
The scenery was great . We also chased a gaggle of geese.

Bob videoed the trip with his GoPro. But I haven’t figured out how to edit it to make a short movie yet.  I’ll put it on youtube when I get it figured out.  Right now it’s 2 hrs. long.

We didn’t get to hike during this week.  We had work to do around the lot, and played pickleball.  The following Monday, the 18th, we took another kayak trip down the Snake, but put in further up the river.  Took out at the same place, but put in 4 miles north of Hoback Junction.  Bob Carl, a friend from Happy Trails and the McKay’s rented kayaks to see if they were interested in getting some.  We had a lot more people in this trip about double the numbers.  There were 13 of us.

Talk about a weird group.  All pickleball players, so what can I say.

It was cloudy and cold until the take out and then we had great sun.  Had a great time.   Now, we’re off the courts for a while since we’re having 4 new courts surfaced and the weather is not cooperating so that the man can finish the painting.
