Hiking and even Pickleball

Last time I shared the Hummingbird adventure, but forgot to tell you about the jeep trip out to Tropic Reservoir on the Fremont Trail.  Our first of hopefully more off road trips.  Below is the Reservoir.  We plan on going back with the kayaks.

This was on the 16th of May. Still too chilly for kayaks.

On the 23rd, we went outside the park to Red Canyon National Park.  This is the beautiful Red Canyon area on HIghway 12  several miles before the turn off to Bryce on Hwy 63.  Absolutely beautiful and some really good off road routes.

This is the Arches Trail.  It was only a 1/2 mile loop, but is supposed to have 15 arches on the loop.  We lost count.  The arches were more windows.  It was fairly narrow in places and steep but easy to navigate.

We also hiked the Losee Canyon Trail.  This was 3 miles out the canyon and then 3 P5230032miles back.  It’s was the most flat trail so far. But of course at the end of the connecting trail we just had to scramble to the top.

We were on duty for Memorial Day Weekend.  Really hectic.  All viewpoint parking lots full and of course the campgrounds were full.  Everyone had problems of some sort, but nothing major.

On Wednesday the 27th, we were ready to get out of Dodge so we headed to Cedar City and played Pickleball with Elizabeth & Higgie, Sandy Brandt, and some of the young hard hitting Cedar City people.  Took a couple of games to get back in the grove.  Now we won’t play again  until the 10th of June in St. George.

On the 29th, we hiked Fairyland Loop (8.3 miles) for the 2nd time.  This time we hiked it Clockwise.  It’s just as pretty that direction, but I prefer it Counter-Clockwise.

On our days off, we normally walk the rim and wash clothes the first day, do a big hike on the second day and rest on the 3rd day.  So on our next hike day, we parked the car at Whiteman Trailhead and had Kevin, our supervisor, take us up to Rainbow Point.  This was almost 12 miles and since some of the trail had been washed out, we had to scramble up and down to find the trail.

The Astronomy Festival is here at Bryce this week, June 5th-8th.  It’s been busy, busy, busy. I volunteered to do face painting on Wednesday. It was a blast painting on all the little ones.   Yesterday the camp ground was full by 2:00.  Today, we have 3 sites left in our area and it’s 2:45 pm .  Wish it would hurry up an fill up, we have a pot luck at 5:00 pm.  If it’s full, we can take an hour and go. Tomorrow is our last work day this cycle and we go to St. George and play PICKLEBALL!!!
