North Idaho Senior Games
Now we’re in Lewiston, ID. We got here on Wednesday, June15th. Of course, we didn’t have to use our windshield wipers except to clean the windshield until we left Boise, heading for Lewiston. It’s raining, and they stop in mid stream. Luckily it’s not raining too hard and we’re able to see enough to get into town. On Thursday morning, we’re supposed to meet Jessie Dawson and some of the other pickleball players at the Airport Tennis courts to play. But we have to take the rig down to a shop to get the wipers fixed. You know, we’re in the Northwest now and need wipers, not like in Arizona. They order the part and instead of leaving on Sunday as planned, we’ll be leaving on Monday after they get the part in. Being retired, we just change our plans.
Thursday is rainy, but not raining. We go meet the other players at the Lewiston High School to measure off the courts for play on Friday.
It’s a small tournament, but some decent players. We didn’t have partners for the doubles, so they fixed Bob up with Vo. And me up with Linda. Vo was fun and knew how to play, but the competition was tougher on the men’s side. The 50’s were combined with the 60-64 group.
Although they didn’t win the bracket, they did take a gold in the 55-59. Rodell and Gary from Boise took Gold in the 60-64 group and overall.
My partner had actually only been on the court a total of 3 times, but was a PE Teacher and a Tennis Player. We won our first match even though she didn’t get one serve in. There were only 5 teams of women in all ages, so everyone medaled. We did very well, came in third among the women and took a Silver in our age group. Friday evening Doug and Shirlene McMillan had everyone over to their house for Hamburgers and Hot Dogs. Everyone brought something to share. The group there are really great. Friday was beautiful even though rain was predicted.
On Saturday it was Mixed Doubles, Bob and I played together and we’re still happily married. There were 4 teams in the 50’s. We won all of our games and took a Gold. Even though it was small, there were some good players and it gave us a chance to play together in tournament before Huntsmen. It started raining just as we finished our games and some of the final events were called for rain. Saturday evening we had the awards dinner. All the other sports must have been really small, pickleball having only 38 participants was the largest event.
Lewiston is a great city with lots and lots of paved trails. We stayed at Hell's Gate State Park. Really, Really nice and large sites. Sunday was forecast to be rainy, but it turned out to be beautiful. I had a great Father's Day, Bob fixed apple cinnamon pancakes and then took me out to lunch/dinner around 2:30 to Rooster's in Clarkson, WA. Right on the river and good food. Heading for Crescent Bar in Washington as soon as we get the Windshield Wiper's fixed.
