Africa completed
After many days off, I’m hoping to finish this trip. Although, looking thru all the pictures brings the trip back to life. I really don’t want it to finish too quick.
On the 13th we covered more of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This continues to amaze me with the beauty of the animals and open spaces.
On the 14th, we headed to the Serengeti National Park. During the normal wet season, there would be thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and all the animals that this food source brings with it. We got a feel (if only 1/100th of what the migration is normally like) of how it would be. We actually saw 60 separate lions and about 10 cheetahs on this one day. The numbers of zebras, wildebeest, water buffalo, and even another leopard. It was a day to remember. We didn’t actually see a kill, but we did see one lioness stalking the zebra (she missed) and the zebras got away. We did see several that didn’t get away.
The day started early, these pictures were before breakfast. We had breakfast next to a pool of Hippos.
Then headed out for more animals.
As the day comes to an end, we have a sundowner with our guides.
The next day we’re heading out to the Ngorongoro Crater.
After Breakfast, we load up and head out. One group opted to go to the Oldupai Gorge Archeological Site. We opted to go on an additional animal drive and see more animals on the way to the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge and the inside of the Crater.
To some people, we’re just seeing more of the same animals, but every day was a little different and you never knew if you would see something different. You can’t take too many pictures, the next one may be the best yet.
And then the Lodge, Another winner!
After we all arrived, we went down into the crater for a afternoon. The crater is a large volcanic caldera and is recognized by one private organization as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa.
The evening was interesting to say the least. We started with a band and were supposed to have the a group of Maasai Dancers, but as luck happens, one of the fireplaces in the bar had a chimney fire in it and we got to watch them put the fire out instead. After that, we did have the customary 5 course meal. REALLY GREAT FOOD everyday.
The next day we spent the full day, box breakfast and lunch. We saw the sunrise, but you have to leave the crater by 6:00 pm, so no sunset there. Beautiful day again and great pictures.
This was the last night, home tomorrow night on a 9:50 pm flight, so we decided to party. The Maasai Dancers performed and we performed with them. We danced with the band before hand. Great trip thanks to Tanzania Outdoor Adventures and our great guides, Jombi, Allen, Gerald, and Joshua.
