Summer in Star Valley

I haven’t written for a while since we’ve been busy with just everyday events.  After 10 days in AZ, we headed out to Star Valley on May 31st.  I guess we were anxious to get here and only had one overnight in Nephi, UT.  It’s around 800 miles from our house in Happy Trails to our lot in Star Valley.

This is a picture of the mountains when we got here. Snow only on the top. This was on the 3rd of June. We had beautiful weather with only mid 70’s during the day and above freezing at night.beginning snow

We had rain and snow on the 18th. Here’s pictures of the sleet mix and then the snow on the mountains the day after. IMG_1468

We contacted the concrete person and managed to get started on the lot the second week in June.  We had a lot of work to level the lot and get it ready for the pour.

Empty lot, and after we leveled it.

Now it’s  finished, but we can’t get on the lot yet since the new 100 amp electrical hasn’t been added.  We’re parked next to our lot now. IMG_1512

We’ve had great weather, but a little hotter than usual.  Besides playing picklleball almost everyday, we’ve been able to get in 3 hikes so far.  One on June 22nd, Cedar Creek.  All hikes here on the east of HGHY 89 go uphill into the mountains.  The skunk weed was really in bloom along with many other wild flowers. We hiked up to the snow that was still in the valley. P6220002

On July 1st we did the North Fork of the Strawberry Creek Trail.  Last year we hiked to the lake and we were trying to get there which is about 4 miles out, but at 3.5 miles, we lost the trail due to the snow.  They had about 140% of the normal snowfall with lots of avalanches.  You can tell it by the broken and downed trees.  The trails was covered and hard to follow. But the wild flowers were glorious. 100_0009

The park had the normal 4th of July Parade with the Decorated Golf Carts and bicycles.  Had a really good participation.  We had Don and Janet over for Hot Dogs with cheese and chili and watermelon.  What else would you serve on the 4th?

On July 5th, we hiked Lost Creek.  Last year when we did this hike, it rained, but this day it was beautiful.  The Creek wasn’t lost, it was running full blast.  We had 2 water crossing about 2 miles out.  We were trying to get to the lake at the end of this trail, but at 4.2 miles out, we had to turn back. We’d already got up 1300 ft and it seemed we were just beginning to climb.  Also, so much damage to the trails that it was almost impassible.

  Again, wild flowers galore.

We could’ve taken the log, but it would have been a balancing act.

Notice the cracked log.  It’s a good thing I didn’t notice it while I was crossing.

Can you find me in the bushes.  Like I said the trails were almost impassible.

But beautiful scenery.

For a change of pace, we went kayaking in the marshes on Monday, July  7th.  We saw lots of birds and had a beaver in the water with us.  It was a beautiful day and great friends.  There were 5 couples all together.  P7070047

and we decided there was a pair of beavers since we saw them at the same time in different areas.

We’ve decided to dedicate Mondays to Kayaking.  If we get too many for one trip, we’ll just make two trips out of it.  Next Monday may be the Salt River.  It’s still running high, but should be able to get under the bridges.  I’m a little scared. Last year I tumped over.

I’ll try to keep more up to date.
