April Family Fun

Winter’s gone and the seasons over.  We got to Happy Trails at the end of October and immediately started with tournaments. Not playing just working.  In December, we took our annual trip for a beach and snorkel fix.  Then back for more tournaments.  I had back surgery on Dec. 17th, so no pickleball for me the rest of the season.

In April, my big brother Jim Richardson, my Sister, Gladys and Husband, Denny Houghton, and my Sister, Anita and her husband, Stan Kubin cam to visit me.  We normally meet somewhere in May for an annual get together.  This year it was April and at my place.  Dom and Sue were nice enough to move their rig and Gladys and Denny  parked on their lot right next to us so that we could all be together.  Bob and I moved into our RV the night before they arrived since we were headed out after they left.

Picked Jim up at the airport on Thursday, April 18th.  We stopped for lunch/dinner at our favorite Mexican Food restaurant and headed home to welcome Anita and Stan who arrived later that night.

Friday, we headed for a short hike at the White Tanks.

I had never been on the Waterfall hike, so we took it. Of course, no waterfall, only a small pool as evidence that there sometimes was one.

After the hike we had a late lunch at Dillands at the World Wild Life Zoo.

On Saturday,  since Gladys and Denny  didn’t arrive until later in the afternoon, we headed out to Jerome to see the town.  It was a beautiful drive.

On Sunday, Bob, Denny and Stan took a drive in the jeep (off road) and met the rest of us in Wickenburg.  Had Lunch at Anita’s Mexican Food Restaurant.

Every evening was spent playing cards and visiting.

Jim’s flight back was on Monday, so we dropped him off at the airport and the rest of us visited the Desert Botanical Garden.

Every one left on Tuesday Morning, so by Wednesday morning, we were on our way.

Well sorta, when we disconnected the electricity, the Refrigerator started yelling.  Last year there had been a recall on our Norco and they fixed the problem with a sensor that trips the switch if the refrigerator gets too hot.  Well, we ran by Orangewood RV, to see if they could get to it.  They said it would be a charge of at least one hour diagnostic charge ($109) and they couldn’t guarantee that they could get to it that day.  Stupidly, Bob and I thought that it was only the problem with the propane, not electric and everything would stay good until we got to Kanab for an overnight.  We were headed to Bryce for 2 1/2 months with electric so could get get it fixed in Ogden later.

Well, we pulled into Kanab RV Corral and no, the refrigerator didn’t work on electric either.  No RV repair shops in the area.  Ran into  Lorilee and Gary, a neighbor from Happy Trails in that park.  We were really to busy trying to save food to do any visiting.

After transferring most of the frozen and all the spoilable food to two large coolers on ice, we decided to go by way of Hurricane, UT to Bryce Canyon.

We were at the door of   Neilson RV  when they opened Thursday morning.  The service manager came out and said, “We’ll try a quick fix to reset the sensor.  If that works, you’re home free.  If not, we can’t fit you in today at all, we’re booked solid.”  Well, the fix worked and we left 15 minutes later. And actually, there was no charge!

We arrived in Bryce Canyon National Park around 1:00 pm and are now camp hosts for the North Campground.  Anyone travelling this way, stop and see us here.
