Gunnison

Well, had to get back to the library since Bob’s got 2 tournaments next week and the tournament directors had some questions he needed to answer.  On Saturday, we left Matterhorn and headed to Elk Creek National Forest Campground in the Curecanti National Recreation Area.  Just electric, no water or sewer, and only enough internet for emails.  When we got here on Saturday, we drove into Gunnison just about 15 miles up the road to check out laundries, there wasn’t a public laundry in Telluride, so we were running out of clothes. Discovered an that Mesa RV had a public laundry mat and pickleball. Bob also needed to solve a problem with a tournament in SC, but we didn’t have time at the library that evening. The stopped at Pappy’s, a restaurant at the  Elk Creek marina.  Great little place to eat.  Ran into a couple that stays in Apache Junction during the winter and their house is directly across the street from Dee Johnson. Small world. He’s learning to pl...

Matterhorn and beyond

As promised, I’m sitting in the Library in Gunnison to post this blog.  No internet in the Curanti National Forest so we’ve driven into Gunnison to collect mail and catch up on things.  We do now have electric, but still no water or sewer.  After Durango, we headed to Matterhorn to a national forest campground.  We were there for a week, dry camping and even when we ran the generator, No wi-fi or phone.  The weather was cold and wet, but something we’re getting used to.  Still obeying the doctor and only sight seeing by car.  On Sunday, Aug 5th after we arrived, we headed into Telluride to check things out.  This was the last day of Jazz Fest and we did get to see and hear one band.  This wasn’t actually at the Festival, but just a free concert in town.  The also lucked on to a great 4 wheel drive up to Bridal Falls.  Great for no planning. As we’re leaving Town, we see this great herd of Elk. The first of the summer. The ne...

We had a great tournament in Ogden, UT.  I played with Nadine McKay in the 4.0 Women Doubles.  There were only 2 teams, so we took silver by default.  Played with Sean Gregory in the 4.5 Mixed Doubles. Didn’t medal, but did win a couple of matches from some great players.  It was really good play.  Enjoyed seeing not only Nadine and Mike  McKay, but Karen & Phil Wisner and Paul & Linda Hoggatt from Grand.  We also visited with the group that came up from St. George to play in the games.  We headed for Page, AZ next.  I had to have my third epidural for my degenerative disk.  The pain went away almost completely with the first two, but it started returning after getting back active.  Hopefully, this one will work for awhile.  Had one day there before driving back to Surprise.  We decided to do the Antelope Canyon on the Navajo Reservation.  It was fantastic. Here’s a few pictures of the Slot Canyon. ...
