Jacobs Lake & North Rim
We’re finally on the road again. We left Surprise on Tuesday with temps around 110 and moved up to Jacobs Lake at the National Forest Campground. No hookups, but clean and convenient for touring the area. We can’t hike yet due to Bob’s toes (another 2 or 3 weeks until full flexibility returns) and since I had shots in my back, I’m supposed to wait a couple of weeks before exercising. Above is Jacobs Lake that is actually just a pond now.
We did the tourist thing and went to Pipe Springs National Monument. It was really interesting since it was the history of how the Mormons captured the springs for themselves and cut off the spring to the Paiute Indians that were there. This was built as a fort to not only protect them from the Indians, but to protect them from the US Government. They housed the second and third wives there to hide them from the law during the time they were trying to make Utah a state. The women ran Windsor Castle as it was named and operated telegraph service with 995 miles of wire.
We then took the jeep on undeveloped roads and ended up at the Pink Coral Sand Dunes State Park.
This is for our ATV friends.
On Thursday, we again visited the North Rim. Never, ever tire of the beauty of the Grand Canyon.
On Friday, we drove on to Nephi, UT. Lots of rain and just an overnight for our designation on Friday of Ogden, UT for the Pioneer Days Pickleball Tournament. The Ogden Pickleball Club is fantastic and really are making us feel welcome. Something has been planned for everyday and evening. Lots and Lots of food. There new courts are finished and things are ready for the tournament on Thursday.
John Gullo has taken great care of us and arranged for Bob and I to go fishing this morning, Tuesday, 7/17/2012 Dee met us and we were on the water in his Bass Boat around 8:00 am.
That’s all for now, have to go to dinner at John’s house with Linda and Dennis Forbes and Linda & Paul Hoggatt.
